"The future depends on what we do with the present." Mahatma Gandhi, 1869-1948

While the discovery of rDNA may hold one of the greatest promises in the history of biology, studies continue to expose the potential dangers associated to consuming foods which contain them.

The agrochemical industry is valued at over $42 billion and operates with impunity while over 355,000 people die from pesticide poisoning every year, and hundreds of thousands more are made ill. In addition, pesticide corporations have put livelihoods and jobs in jeopardy, including, farmers, beekeepers and lobstermen.

These postings explore the research, surveys and analyses that link industrial agriculture to adverse effects not only to our well being but that of the our planet. To read the study referenced above please go to: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21338670

Low Levels of Roundup Toxic to Aquatic Invertebrate Daphnia Magna

The tonnage of glyphosate herbicide application has been constantly increasing since the introduction of this group of chemicals in 1971 (Dill et al. 2010). The 2008 global production was estimated to be 620.000 tonnes, representing a value of 8.3 billion US$, making glyphosate the most widely used herbicide ingredient worldwide (Pollak 2011).

Glyphosate Could Cause Bee Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD)

Plant pathologist Dr. Don Huber examines glyphosate as a possible cause of CCD in a paper written for the Center for Honeybee Research.

Warning over CSIRO GM Wheat Threat

The Safe Food Foundation & Institute commissioned scientific experts Dr Jack Heinemann from the University of Canterbury and Dr Judy Carman from Flinders University to give their expert scientific opinions on CSIRO’s genetically modified wheat. Both Dr Heinemann and Dr Carman indicated that they believe there are major gaps in CSIRO’s risk assessment testing leading to potential life-threatening consequences.

Abstract

GM Maize Causes Death of Spermatogonial Cells

Histopathological examination was carried out on the rats fed the GM maize, and the results were compared with rats fed non-GM maize. The study found clear signs of organ pathology in the GM-fed group, especially in the liver, kidney, and small intestine. An examination of the testes revealed necrosis (death) and desquamation (shedding) of the spermatogonial cells that are the foundation of sperm cells and thus male fertility – and all this after only 91 days of feeding.
