GE Crops Canada
It's been 15 years since genetically engineered biocrops and biofoods were first introduced into Canada without public debate. Today, over half of Canada’s corn and soy is genetically engineered(GE). The majority of canola grown in Canada is GE. The vast majority of GE biocrops are in used in processed food as ingredients such as corn starch, soy lecithin and canola oil. There is no law requiring the labelling of GE ingredients.

Avoiding GE Food in Your Grocery Aisles

Genetically engineered foods are so prevalent that if you randomly pick an item off your grocery store's shelves, you have a 75 percent chance of picking a food with GE ingredients. At least seven out of every 10 items have genetically engineered additives.

In 2003, countries that grew 99% of the global genetically engineered crops were the United States (63%), Argentina (21%), Canada (6%), Brazil (4%), and China (4%), and South Africa (1%). Unregulated, quiet and with lightning speed expansion has been spearheaded in the US by a handful of companies making billions of dollars in sales.
